About ONO

The Organization of News ombuds and Standards Editors (ONO) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to upholding high standards in journalism.

Its members include news ombuds, readers’ representatives, and standards editors from media outlets across the world, representing online, print, television, and radio sectors.

Among these members are professionals from prominent organizations like the Associated Press, Agence France Presse, BBC, The Guardian, CBC/Radio-Canada, Australia’s ABC and SBS, Japan’s Asahi Shimbun, and Africa’s largest news company, Media 24.

Standards editors focus on maintaining ethical practices within their newsrooms, while ombuds and readers’ representatives work to address and resolve complaints from audiences, fostering understanding of journalism’s principles and practices.

Since its founding in 1980, ONO has developed a strong network of editorial standards and complaints-handling leaders from all over the world
