David Regev : Hi. Do you receive complaints about diversity and if so, what are your powers to handle complaints and how do you handle them?

Miriam Lewin : One year ago, in Argentina Congress passed a bill on Gender equality and trans quota in the media. More and more women are being appointed in the media, but Afro, Asian, Indigenous people, people with disabilities and others are not included at all. Not even as sources.

Elisabeth Jensen : Jessica, I’m curious why it’s illegal to ask about ethnic origin etc.? NPR has found some good benchmarks by sending post-interview surveys asking those who were interviewed to self identify

Elisabeth Ribbans : https://www.theguardian.com/gnm-press-office/2021/oct/18/the-guardian-appoints-joseph-harker-as-senior-executive-for-diversity-and-development

Elisabeth Jensen : If it’s helpful, here’s how NPR worked diversity into its standards: https://www.npr.org/about-npr/688423970/special-section-diversity

Jack Nagler : Elisabeth, I have had similar concerns expressed by complainants, wondering whether I have any standing to assess complaints about content which they perceive to be racist, transphobic, etc.

Elisabeth Jensen : In the U.S. most major newsrooms have appointed diversity editors in the past couple years

Jack Nagler : Apologies, I have to jump into another meeting. Thank you, Jessica, for helping spark a great conversation! have a good day everyone….

Jessica : thanks Jack !

Pierre Champoux, omb. Radio-Canada : Merci Jessica! C’était très intéressant et propice à la réflexion!
